How to debug webhook retries and backoff

Providers retry on 5xx, timeouts, and sometimes slow responses. Your handler must be idempotent and fast enough. Simulate retries and backoff to see how your stack behaves under load.

Common causes

  • No idempotency handling for duplicate deliveries.
  • Handler slower than provider timeout.
  • Non-2xx for transient errors that should succeed.

How to fix

  • Use Retry Simulator to test backoff and jitter.
  • Return 2xx only after durable processing or queueing.
  • Log delivery IDs to correlate retries.
